SPREADER BEAMS FOR CONSTRUCTING
Case Study on the M30 in Madrid
This success case reflects our company's ability to overcome complex challenges through detailed planning, the use of advanced technologies, and effective logistical management. Collaboration with the Grúas Aguilar team and the dedication of our personnel were key to the successful installation of the prefabricated bridge over the M30.
Case Study
Installation of the Prefabricated Bridge over the M30 in Madrid
Background
A challenging project, due to its scale and tight deadline, was entrusted to us in October 2019: designing and providing the lifting engineering required for the installation of a bridge consisting of prefabricated sections, each weighing up to 300 tons, over the M30 highway in Madrid.
The project required the swift delivery Modular Spreader Beams for cranes, along with all other necessary components, within just one month.
Challenges to overcome within a month:
The project presented several significant challenges:
Manufacturing of three lifting beams: Adjusting sizes and capacities to meet our client’s specific requirements, along with all the necessary accessories, in record time.
Specialized Slings: The slings had to fit into 300 mm diameter holes and be flexible and strong enough to wrap around the concrete sections without damage.
Special Materials: The requirement for heavy and uncommon materials further complicated delivery times and costs.
Solutions:
1. Delivery of 3 Modular Spreader Beams for cranes
A configuration of three Spreader Beams was chosen, arranged in a cascade formation (as shown in the picture).
At the top, a 400 tons of capacity spreader beam, model OX-SB-250/400 was used, while at bottom, two lower Spreader Beam with a capacity of 170 tons each, model OX-SB-170.
We have extensive experience in the design and production of load spreader beams for large-scale projects. Our spreader beams for lifting are among our best-selling and most highly regarded products. We receive orders from clients worldwide, and these beams are also certified by DNV.”
We currently offer the models with the highest capacity and longest lengths in the European Union!
We are certified by DNV and accredited by FEM-AEM. Additionally, we hold ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 3834-2 certifications. This reflects our steadfast commitment to the highest standards of quality and safety.
2. Main Lifting accessories
Given that the essential requirement was for the lower slings to fit into 300 mm diameter holes and be flexible and strong enough to wrap around the base of the bridge sections without damaging themselves or the concrete, this significantly complicated the delivery times, as these were heavy and uncommon materials.
The solution chosen was to use special Dyneema slings, an ultra-resistant and very light material, with an approximate weight of only 100 kg per sling and a diameter of 110 mm to lift each bridge section by means of two units in basket, in “U” shape (as the picture), with a resulting capacity of 200 tons per sling.
3. Other Lifting accessories
Additionally, it was complemented with all the remaining lifting accessories: Grommet wire rope (a versatile and economical solution for this range of capacities) and Wide Body Shackles to not damage the slings and therefore not decrease their capacity due to the capacity reduction factors that would apply in case of using conventional shackles.
Precision Execution and Efficient Delivery:
Execution and Delivery: In record time, we completed all the necessary processes, including budgeting for all the tools, the plans, the stockpiling and receipt of materials, as well as the manufacturing of custom spreader beams tailored to the project’s needs, along with delivery to the client’s location.
Logistical Management: Through meticulous planning, advanced technologies, and seamless coordination by the purchasing department, we successfully overcame supplier limitations in record time.
We ensured the highest standards of quality and safety while delivering the following goods and accessories:
1 x Spreader beam OX-SB-250/400 x 5 m span
2 x Spreader beam OX-SB-170 x 4 m span
2 x Dyneema slings x 12 m x 100 t WLL/each in “U” shape
2 x Grommet sling 6 m x 251 t WLL
4 x Grommet sling 4 m x 134 t WLL
2 x Wide body shackles x 300 t WLL
2 x Wide body shackles x 200 t WLL
4 x Wide body shackles x 125 t WLL
4 x Wide body shackles x 125 t WLL
Successful outcome:
Client Satisfaction: Our client, Luis Aguilar, manager of “Grúas Aguilar,” expressed great satisfaction with our work, highlighting the speed and quality of the supply.
Successful Assembly: The bridge assembly was completed without incidents during the same month of delivery, demonstrating the effectiveness of our planning and execution.
Recognition: We received a video recorded with drones that documented the process, showcasing the team’s achievements and the project’s success.
